The five ways the local sources give

I am listing these as the city and the castle publish them, with the distances they give and nothing added. I have deliberately not written a walking time for any of the stops, because that depends on the walker and the hill, and a number I invented would be worse than none.

The Sightseer, the hop-on hop-off bus, passes the castle on a route that also takes in Bergisel and the Tirol Panorama. It is the only one of the five that stops at the gate rather than near it, and it is carried by the Innsbruck Card.
Postbus line 4134 runs from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof and takes about nine minutes. If you are arriving by train with a case, this is the one I would look up first.
Tram 6, the Igler, stop Tummelplatz, about 400 m from the gate. The Igler is a narrow-gauge line that climbs out of the city and is worth riding for itself.
Bus C, stop Luigenstraße, about 600 m, and the last of that comes up through the grounds rather than along a road.
Tram 3 towards Amras, stop Philippine-Welser-Straße, about 1.2 km. The longest walk of the five, and named after the woman the castle was rebuilt for. Who she was.

By car, and why I mostly do not

The drive out is short and the road is ordinary. What is not ordinary is where you put the car: Schlossstrasse is a paid zone from nine in the morning until seven at night, charged by the half hour, and parking is not covered by the castle ticket. The bus back fills up at five

Everyone leaves when the castle closes, which is the same minute, and the stop is not large. If you have a train to catch, walk out at twenty to five rather than at five, or plan to wait for the second bus.
